I’ve got a lot going on this weekend, and having poured my heart and soul into last week’s piece, I wanted to get back to basics for this week’s review. The review I’d been working on, which I mentioned last week, is going to happen, but is still on hold. It’s a fantastic strain, but more subtle than I’m feeling this week. Sitting down to write this week feels like whatever I decide to write needs to lack subtlety and instead just could use a truly solid, classic high. Enter: Blue Lime Pie, cultivated by Cannabis Caveman.
I almost overlooked this strain when it first arrived at the store. I’ve had a little bit of a rollercoaster ride with Cannabis Caveman. Their flower is clearly high quality; it’s trimmed well, cured appropriately, and they all have excellent aromas. But I’ve been really hit or miss on the effects (bearing in mind that this is all personal, and many of their strains that have not been my personal favorites have been very popular with customers and coworkers). The first batch of strains we got from them a little over a year ago were decent, but nothing really stuck out or impressed me too much on the highs, even though – again – they were all excellent cultivations. But then our second batch of strains just before 420 knocked it out of the park. Strains like Garlic Grove, Black Maple, Jet Fuel Gelato, Grape Stank, they were all top tier. Garlic Grove and Black Maple in particular are personal favorites and have had customers coming back still asking about them, months later.
Anyway, this batch of new strains included Pink Marshmallow, which has a parent strain I’ve written about or references so many times (Strawberry Guava or StrawGuava), so I had some high hopes there; Mudslide, which is the other review I’ve been working on, and which got my attention because it smells just like if a Mudslide cocktail were cannabis instead of alcohol (more on that when I finish that review); and Blue Lime Pie, which, if you read a couple of weeks ago, I was prone to overlook because it’s got a baked good name. Apparently I don’t learn from my mistakes as easily as I would like to think I do.
At least I was smart and bought an eighth to try instead of just a preroll. Despite its relatively high THC in the 27%+ range, given the pie in the name, and the dominant terpene (linalool), I was expecting a low key, mellow kind of high. It always comes back to Princess Magic Girl, but even at 25% it always still hits as a chill high, so I had tempered my expectations. Not that I wasn’t expecting to enjoy Blue Lime Pie, but I severely underestimated how much I would like it, and how high it was going to get me.
An interesting bit that I haven’t mentioned yet is the lineage. One side is Key Lime Pie, a phenotype of the ever popular Girl Scout Cookies. The other is Blue Power (which has two lineages, but the lineage most likely in this version, as it shares the same breeder as Blue Lime Pie itself, is probably Sour Double, Master Kush, The White, and Blue Moonshine). With so much going on in its genetics (GSC, Sour Diesel, Blueberry, Hindu Kush, Triangle Kush, and so forth), it should have been no surprise that this would be stronger than I had initially expected.
I guess I had thought that the overall blend of these strains and the terpene profile would have provided a more relaxing and mellow high. Linalool for me is typically a calming, anxiety-reducing chill. And even with the heavy hitters in its lineage, I had mistakenly guessed that the differing effects might be more homogenized or watered down, becoming this pleasantly low-key high. I was so wrong. This strain gets me stoned. Like, can’t hide it, eyelids droopy, a little giggly, both zoned out and hyper focused at the same time, not sleepy but could sleep any time stoned.
Like I said at the top, everything these guys grow looks and smells amazing, so I’ll let the featured image and notes below speak to all that. I’ll leave you with the final thought that this strain is likely going to be a top 20 or so all time, and is definitely a top 5 at the moment for me. Get some before I sell or smoke it all.
